[Ms. Editor]Yuli's correct decision! Smart TransPRK laser eye surgery

Ms. Editor, Yuli

Surgery on December 8, 2017|I received the laser refractive eye surgery at the end of 2017 with both myopia of 3.00 D and astigmatism of 3.00 D altogether! Now, it’s been two years after the operation, I’d share my experience in receiving laser refractive eye surgery an invitation from WishVision Eye Center.

Every time when people ask me: “Are you with myopia?” I don’t know whether to say “yes” or ‘no” because I had laser surgery at the end of 2017 with both myopia of 3.00 D and astigmatism of 3.00 D altogether! Now, it’s been two years after the operation, I’d share my postoperative experience by an invitation from WishVision Eye Center.

I’ve suffered from many eye problems since a kid such as hereditary strabismus, so I had surgery on both eyes early at the age of elementary school so that my eyes wouldn’t drift in different direction like Mad Eye Moody. Then, although my family does not have a TV, I was addicted to reading as a child. Particularly, I used to stay up at night reading fictions in blanket since grade 3 or 4, leading increase 1.00 D of myopia annually, which even reached to 6.00 D by grade 6. My parents thought that sooner or later I would have retinal detachment (Yes, they used to intimidate me into looking away or going to bed), so they took me for a therapeutic session using ortho-k lenses.

Thanks to ortho-k lenses, my myopia had been successfully controlled at 6.00 D without any increase. The therapeutic session ended when I studied in university, so I started to wear daily disposable contact lenses. Soon I found a problem that my astigmatism has reached as high as 3.00 D, and the correction diopter for astigmatism was only 2.00 D in the market at that time. If I go out wearing contact lenses, I could not see things clearly and experienced dry eye and itching too. I put up with such situation for several years and then changed to heavy glasses when I started my career as an editor.

I occasionally needed to go out for teaching and lecturing, so I started to consider receiving a laser refractive eye surgery to solve the myopia problem forever. According to my boss, she has been suffering from many sequelae after receiving laser eye surgery at young age, experiencing photophobia and eye dryness, etc., which made me hesitate. However, it was twenty years ago when my boss received the surgery. Technology progress could beyond our imagination. I saw on Facebook, a host's friends shared their experiences of receiving Smart TransPRK at WishVision Eye Center.

Key features of this new technology are no flap, no contact, safe and nearly no sequelae. Most importantly, “astigmatism will be corrected altogether” is so attractive to me, so I made an appointment right after receiving contact information. After a series of examinations and tests to determine that my eyes could take the treatment (cornea is thick enough to do such surgery), I decided to receive the treatment immediately.

I chose to receive the surgery at the end of 2017. The ideal was after the surgery, I could be home to take a few days rest and then go back to work with clear vision celebrating the new year of 2018. Nevertheless, the day before the holiday was fully booked, so I had no choice but to take two days before holiday for the surgery. In other words, I had to work the next day after the surgery before taking a good rest.

This way to go to work; in fact, my eyes were painful on the following day of surgery. I needed to take analgesics and artificial tears (By the way, WishVision provides a service of artificial tears produced by patient’s serum, totally your own tears). I, however, successfully ended the last working day in 2017. Postoperative recovery varies among individuals. It took me around two weeks to achieve 80-90% of recovery. My boyfriend, who also received the surgery in 2019, spent only one week for recovery. Two years passed quickly, it’s now 2020. My eyesight maintains around 1.0 to 0.9 at regular revisits, no any sequelae so far.

Two years after the surgery, an editor of social media team from WishVision (Yes, WishVision has a comprehensive marketing team including in-house photographer. It probably is the most serious clinic operating self-media in the industry) invited me for an interview, to share the transformation of my life after the surgery as a diagram text writer.

In fact, there is a bunch of sharing about all postoperative experiences such as the convenience in doing exercises without glasses, being able to go out more quickly, or non-fogged-up glasses when having noodle soup and so on. Personally, the real change is lifting my mentality after receiving the laser surgery. Previously, my life was divided into “less important” situation, which I’d simply wear glasses; “more important” situation, then I’d wear contact lenses. When you do not see things clearly, it is easy to generate a "casual" or "irrelevant" mentality, perfunctory unconsciously to the surroundings.

After the surgery, on the other hand, I clearly see all the details in my daily live. Walking along the street, wording in each signboard and facial expression of people passing by, all become very clear, which force me to face all tiny details in my life. When we attentively handle all those details, insensibly, the mentality toward the world and even the inspiration for creativity is commonly enhanced. I’ve experienced significant change in my life during the past two years after receiving the surgery. My book was published, job changed, being a lecturer, setting up a company…, etc. which seem not much to associate with the laser eye surgery, but as the matter of fact, a little change in attitudes always leads us to a different life path.

You may click to watch the exclusive interview, which indicated the context of my decision for the surgery, as well as the postoperative experience sharing. I am glad to make the surgery decision and pleased to recommend to all of you. I’ve been with many problems since my childhood, but the healthcare technology of Taiwan has never disappointed me. Living healthily with clear vision is the most beautiful life.
