[Correction for high myopia of 10.00 D] An's case

Surgery on September 12, 2019|Even with high myopia of 10.00 D, you may still receive Smart TransPRK laser refractive eye surgery, all the inconvenience in daily living with myopia disappeared.

Key points first, this article was written one year after the operation, my eyes have been in good using conditions, so I dare to share the experience with you all, the surgery was performed during the Mid-Autumn Festival Holiday in 2019.

Consultation procedure for laser refractive eye surgery at WishVision Eye Center

I’ve been eager for receiving laser refractive eye surgery, anyway, I’ve been with myopia since I was grade 2 in the primary school, wearing glasses for 22 years, besides, drawbacks due to wearing glasses including:

  1. It’s very troublesome in rainy days, the glasses always fogged up, I cannot see clearly the way ahead (but unfortunately, raining cities are all over the northern region).
  2. If the glasses put aside the bed get lost, I’ll have to go to the toilet in the darkness at midnight, extremely inconvenient.
  3. When cooking, the glasses will be totally fogged up by boiled water, unable to see anything but removing the glasses, but I can’t see anything clearly even the glasses removed, so frustrate.
  4. Besides, I might accidentally lose my glasses sometimes, really lacking of security when I cannot see clearly the world.
  5. After removing the glasses while cutting hair, I even didn’t know how the hair stylist’s doing, totally no security too.

All the above are minor issues anyway! But it’s always frustrated when happened, so I’ve been expecting for a laser eye surgery to solve the problems once and for all. But it’s only an idea, without any actions taken actually. Nevertheless, when I was browsing the PTT someday, someone shared the experience of laser eye surgery at WishVision Eye Center. I decided to check it out first, because the consultation is free of charge anyway, but I thought the feasibility might be quite low due to my myopia of more than 10.00 D with astigmatism. Anyway, I originally was thinking about being for reference only, but surprisingly, it’s super lucky for me to be able to receive the laser eye surgery even with myopia as high as 10.00 D.

Anyway, I originally was thinking about being for reference only, but surprisingly, it’s super lucky for me to be able to receive the laser eye surgery even with myopia as high as 10.00 D.

In fact, I asked the consultant during the consultation if I might have no chance to receive laser eye surgery with such high myopia! She just said, “Let’s first complete the entire consultation anyway, don’t be discouraged, please.” in her such tender and patient attitudes, without any decreased service enthusiasm even for such a patient with pretty low possibility to receive the surgery like me! Highly recommended, highly recommended.

After end of the consultation, the consultant performed postoperative corneal estimation for me, the estimated result surprised even the consultant, because the result indicated sufficient corneal thickness, being able to receive laser eye surgery. In short, my cornea is thicker, and pupil diameter is smaller than normal people. So, I was lucky to be able to receive laser eye surgery even with myopia of more than 10.00 D.

I made an appointment to visit the physician for confirming the report right away. We friended with each other on LINE too, he asked me to contact him for any problem. On the day confirming the report, after briefing on overall condition of my eyes, the physician confirmed the feasibility based on eyes’ status, and I readily made an appointment for laser eye surgery!

So, I resolutely decided to receive the laser refractive eye surgery in the Mid-Autumn Festival Holiday.

WishVision Eye Center – Experience in laser refractive eye surgery

In fact, I didn’t feel nervous at all on the day to receive the surgery, quite excited instead. Because I pay the same amount of money as others but with more than 10.00 D reduced all at once, feeling pretty cheerful. Besides, the much thicker lenses of glasses with high myopia always make the glasses heavier, which is prone to drop downward (losing patience), hurting my nose too. But there is no need to wear the super heavy glasses any more after the laser eye surgery, finally being able to crazily buy some good-looking frames to wear.

In fact, there is nothing serious to talk about the operation, because it ended very quickly. The operation was ended even before the song “Exaggerated” had been entirely played. (They can play any song you like in the operating room, I appointed Eason Chan’s Exaggerated)

Here is the procedure:
After arriving the Eye Center on the day of surgery, the consultant may measure again your diopter and take pictures of corneas, performing blood drawing for preparation of autologous serum artificial tears. After that, the physician will explain for you again precautions for the operation and ask you to sign it.
With all these preparations, you are leaded to the recovery room to put on the gown, entering the operating room to lie on the bed and positioned, the staff will cover a blanket for you, washing eyes and disinfecting, and so on. Remember to reach your head to the top while you lying on the bed.

Then, the physician will use an eye speculum to make your eyes open (to prevent you from closing your eyes or blinking).
That’s something like this, and probably some minor matters too, but the nurse accompanying aside will always clearly explain anyway, you’ll have to just do it as instructed.
One thing noticeable, don’t shake your head or nod while performing laser, just say it whenever you have any question.
Just remember to stare at the green light in front of your eyes, never move, steadily staring at it will be just okay.

Then you will hear from the nurse accompanying aside talking to you,
“You did a good job,”
“Keep it up,”
“Just 10 seconds countdown in your mind, and the operation will be ended.”
The physician will timely talk to you too,
“Quite stable, very good.”
You may notice the laser operation has been already completed before you have time to think much, and while you are surprised at the quick process, the unbelievably amazing speed, the laser operation has been completed for the other eye.

After the laser eye surgery, the physician will assist you to wear medical contact lenses, removing it until the following revisit.
After that, you may take a rest in the recovery room. After the rest, the consultant will lead you to the treatment room allowing the physician to examine the diopter for you. I asked the physician about the status after examination completed, the physician told me that myopia and astigmatism were corrected altogether, I was really happy. Because I’ve been with high myopia, according to the physician, there probably will be some residual diopter, but I didn’t have any residual diopter (happy).
Then, the consultant will drop eye drops three times, I was almost free to go home after eye drops. Before going back home for a rest, the consultant will give you three bottles of autologous serum artificial tears, and 3 bottles of eye drops.
WishVision offers taxi coupon of NT$ 300, I thought it’s more convenient by taxi, being able to refresh the spirit with eyes closed. I slept for a much longer time after returning home, regularly using the eye drops, immediately using the artificial tears produced by using my own serum in case of any discomfort. I’ve tried my best to avoid use of computer, communications and consumer electronics, allowing my eyes to take a good rest for quicker recovery.
I probably started to heavily use my smartphone just three weeks later (heavily use means more than 8 hours of screen using time) (bad example), and less frequently dropping artificial tears due to relatively less episodes of eye strain (hitting the hand). The artificial tears are preferably used up within three weeks, you may averagely use one bottle within each week based on the three bottles they provided.

Laser refractive eye surgery – Experience in postoperative recovery

In laser refractive eye surgery, the most difficult border to go across is probably the period during postoperative recovery, even though the operation is simple, comfortable and quick but it’s a surgery after all, taking a rest is absolutely necessary after any surgery.
WishVision offers an elegant medicine box, it’s very convenient for you when using eye drops or artificial tears, just locating on bedhead.

There might be foreign body sensation exhibited during the first three days, my sensation of foreign body disappeared roughly four days later, with only higher intraocular pressure and eye strain but the conditions vary among individuals, including physical constitution, age, and status of the eyes. I personally didn’t have particular requirement for the speed in recovery, I had more than 10.00 D of myopia after all, which returned to zero within minutes.

After the operation, you may experience eye strain if you use the screen for a much longer time. I used to view the enlarged screen by about 150% when working, just dropping some artificial tears will be all right in case of eye strain, all becoming normal one week later.
At the revisit in the second week, visual acuity had achieved roughly 0.9, if you expect for a quicker recovery, you probably have to heavily use the autologous serum artificial tears, using it up within three weeks.

Another feature from WishVision is that they perform follow-up on your postoperative status, in addition to the reminder from the consultant, the Eye Center also arranges schedules for regular revisits, allowing you to feel quite secure, no matter if they had collected the payment or not.

My personal experience was that the better recovery the vision got, the more careless you became, just like me, so remind yourself to remember frequently dropping eye drops and artificial tears.
If you use your smartphone heavily for several hours without any rest, your eyes certainly become blurred. The only solution is to immediately take a rest and drop artificial tears (personal experience), it will return normal soon!

It’s been more than a year after the operation, I’m glad that I decided to receive the laser eye surgery a year ago. I don’t have to worry about wearing the heavy glasses with thick lenses, and the affected vision due to the fogged-up lenses in rainy days any more, it’s pretty awesome! Most importantly, I can buy lots of wonderful frames and sunglasses.

Anyway, if you want to receive a laser refractive eye surgery, I’d suggest you to do it earliest possible, buy earlier for the soonest enjoyment! Besides, WishVision provides comprehensive tests, I’ve recommended three friends, one of my friends was finally found to be unsuitable for receiving the surgery, so I’d guess WishVision performs pretty complete evaluation. As for the cost, some may consider it not cheap, but too cheap might scare me on the other hand, we have only one pair of eyes after all. Compared to the cost of NT$ 130,000 my friend paid for his laser eye surgery, I’d think it okay.

If you care about security, WishVision is really the option you can consider, I’ve searched on the web before consultation, lots of information can be found by searching laser refractive eye surgery through GOOGLE, operations for laser refractive eye surgery are currently categorized as four types:

  • Smart TransPRK(2015)(WishVision adopted)
  • ReLEX – SMILE(2011)
  • Conventional transPRK(2009)
  • LASIK (2004)

The most common “LASIK” primarily features lower painful sensation and shorter period for recovery.
Smart TransPRK is slightly similar to conventional transPRK, major differences involve the following two advantages of Smart TransPRK:
The SmartPulse technology enables the smoother cornea after laser, as well as the shortened recovery and visual quality. The 7D-Eye-Tracking System (with repetition rate of 1050 Hz for both tracking and ablation): highlighted precision laser with enhanced safety.

I’m not a complicated person, I choose a surgery based on its safety. Besides, in preoperative evaluation at WishVision, they really made me feel that they care about safety, I’ve found almost one thousand cases so far on their official website, which are all favorable comments. Most importantly, with the really effective performance in preoperative evaluation mentioned above, if the result indicates unsuitable to receive the surgery, they would not perform the operation for you.

Furthermore, my recovery was pretty good, also feeling comfortable with the operative procedure, and finally getting rid of the thick and heavy lenses! I can see clearly when getting up in the morning, no need to locate the glasses! I’ pretty happy, I recommend, if you persistently wear contact lenses, or wearing glasses causes inconvenience due to your work or job. It’s really convenient without glasses!
